A large patinated and gilt bronze figure, 'Musicienne', by Gaston Veuvenot Leroux (French, 1854-1942), signed 'Gaston Leroux'. The seated female musician, in flowing drapery, holds a long-necked stringed instrument and gazes into the distance. She is raised on a tall ebonised wood column pedestal applied with a gilt cartouche and sweeping gilt palm fronds, making a complete sculptural ensemble some 183 cm high. Leroux exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1877 and is best known for his Orientalist figures. A dramatic piece for a stair hall, gallery or double-height space.

Provenance: Fontaine's Auction Gallery, lot 235, February 2025; acquired by Urnica.
